The gum pad (10) is a laminate composed of: (a) a synthetic base or backing layer (12) which is configured to be held in place on the gingiva (gums) in the mouth; (b) an intermediate reservoir layer (14) for containing medication (16) therein; and (c) a semi-permeable outer layer (18) facing outwardly towards the oral mucosal tissue (22) in the mouth which will allow saliva to enter and dissolve the medication in the reservoir layer (14) into solution and pass the diffused saliva-medication solution out-wardly to the oral mucosal tissue (22). The backing layer is placed on the gum so that the semi-permeable outer layer (18) faces outwardly toward the buccal mucosa (22). Saliva enters the semi-permeable layer (18) and dissolves the medication in the reservoir layer (14), then diffuses outwardly through the semi-permeable layer (18) to the mucosal tissue in the mouth where it is readily absorbed into the circulatory system. The gum pad (10) can be used for the topical or systemic delivery of a wide range of pharmaceutical and nutritional agents, for the treatment of a variety of human disorders and diseases.
La présente invention concerne une tablette de gomme (10) qui est un laminé composé de: (a) une base synthétique ou couche de fond (12) configurée de façon à être maintenue en place sur la gencive dans la bouche, (b) un intermédiaire, couche réservoir (14) destinée à contenir le médicament (16), et (c) une couche externe semi-perméable (18) orientée vers l'extérieur et vers les muqueuses de la bouche (22), qui permet à la salive d'entrer et de dissoudre le médicament dans la couche réservoir (14) en une solution, et qui permet de faire passer la solution de médicament diffusée dans la salive, vers l'extérieur sur les muqueuses buccales (22). La couche de fond est placée sur la gencive de sorte que la couche externe semi-perméable (18) soit orientée vers l'extérieur et vers la muqueuse de la bouche (22). La salive entre dans la couche semi-perméable (18) et dissout le médicament dans la couche réservoir (14), puis se diffuse vers l'extérieur à travers la couche semi-perméable (18) vers les muqueuses de la bouche ou le médicament est immédiatement absorbé dans le système circulatoire. Cette tablette de gomme (10) peut être utilisée pour des libérations topiques ou systémiques d'une grande variété d'agents pharmaceutiques ou nutritionnels, et pour le traitement d'une grande variété de troubles et de maladies chez l'homme.
