The invention provides a biological dressing for treatment of a dermatological disease comprised of a gum resin, a topically acceptable volatile solvent, and a pharmacologically active agent. The gum resin is present in a suitable amount that the composition, when the solvent evaporates, will dry to form a solid coating that sticks to the skin or mucosal membrane to which the composition is applied and maintain the pharmacologically active agent over a sustained period of time in contact with sites on the skin or mucosal membranes exhibiting symptoms of the disease. Methods are provided for treating symptoms of dermatological diseases with such a pharmacological composition. Biological dressings including tincture of benzoin and clotrimazole are shown to be efficacious for the long-term amelioration of symptoms of athlete's foot.
L'invention concerne un pansement biologique destiné au traitement d'une maladie dermatologique. Ce pansement comprend une résine de gomme, un solvant volatil topiquement acceptable et un agent pharmacologiquement actif. La résine de gomme, présente en proportion appropriée, est séchée par la composition lors de l'évaporation du solvant, d'où la formation d'un revêtement solide collant à la peau ou à la membrane muqueuse sur laquelle ladite composition est appliquée, l'agent pharmacologiquement actif étant maintenu pendant une durée prolongée en contact avec les régions de la peau ou des membranes muqueuses présentant des symptômes de la maladie. L'invention concerne des méthodes destinées à traiter les symptômes de maladies dermatologiques au moyen de cette composition pharmacologique. On a découvert que les pansements biologiques comprenant de la teinture de benjoin et du clotrimazole sont efficaces dans le traitement à long terme des symptômes du pied d'athlète.
