A trigger lock for guns comprised of a sleeve fitted over the swingable leg of a conventional padlock's "U" shaped shackle. The sleeved shackle leg is inserted behind the trigger of a gun and secured in place by closing the padlock around its surrounding trigger guard. The sleeve shims the outer diameter of the shackle to closely fit into the space between the back of the trigger and its surrounding trigger guard, thereby blocking rearward motion of the trigger and disabling the gun. The trigger-blocking sleeve and padlock body include flange protrusions that foil attempts to withdraw the sleeve from behind the trigger after the padlock has been closed. Furthermore, space is provided inside the shackle to receive at least one looped end of a tether cable affixed to an immovable object, thereby preventing the disabled gun from being stolen.
