The present invention 10 discloses an overflow diverter for existing gutters as well as new gutters. For existing gutters 16 the present invention 10 provides a clip-on diverter 10 that attaches to the leading edge 24 of the gutter. The diverter has a downwardly U-shaped form with the front leg 28 terminating in a dog leg lip 30 extending away from the gutter face. The rear leg 32 of the U-shaped form extends under the top lip 24 of the gutter 16 frictionally engaging the top front lip of the gutter. Any water passing over the top lip 24 of the gutter 16 runs down the diverter 10 and across the dog leg 30 before running off without engaging the face 26 of the gutter. When the gutter 34 is formed for a new installation the front is extended into the diverter flange 22 position and lapped back to form the top edge 24 of the gutter 34. The inclination of the diverter flange 22 would be of a similar angle as to the clip-on embodiment but would be comprised of a double layer of material. Also disclosed is an embodiment wherein the diverter flange 22 would comprise a single layer of material.
