A B S T R A C T H2S REMOVAL In a process for the removal of H2S from sour gas by contacting the gas with an aqueous solution containing an oxidizing polyvalent metal chelate, the reduced chelate is regenerated in an electrochemical cell in which anode and cathode are separated by a hydrogen ion permeable barrier and(a) oxygen is supplied to the cathode and water is formed at the cathode, or (b) hydrogen is produced at the cathode.
