A hairbrush of a peculiar shape is described. The hairbrush comprises a brush head which is securely fastened to a handle at one end of the brush head. The brush head is shaped to have a concave shaped surface, which in itself is a surface of revolution. The opposing ends ends of the brush head are enlarged so that they tend to protrude when hair is wound around the brush head. The entire brush head is coated with a suitable thermochromic material (including bristles) which changes colour when the material reaches a predetermined temperature. By virtue of the increased diameter of the ends of the brush, a user may quickly ascertain the change in colour of the material coating on the ends of the brush head even though a view of the surface at the center of the brush head is obscured by hair.
