Abstract of Disclosure: A hair waving or straightening process is provided wherein hair is contacted with a composition for reducing the disulfide linkage of keratin, the hair is subsequently rinsed and is finally contacted with a composition which reestablishes the cleaved disulfide linkages. The improve- ment of this invention comprises including an anionic surfactant in the composition which contains the reducing agent and also contacting the hair with an aqueous solution of a special kind of cationic polymer separately from the step of contacting with the reducing agent.
