The invention relates to a halogen-free flame retardant, which can be obtained by polycondensation of monomers containing phosphorus with monomers which form esters. The monomer which contains phosphorus is an adduct of 9,10- dihydro-9-oxa-10-phospha-phenanthrene-10-oxide (DOPO) and ring-substituted DOPO derivatives on unsaturated carboxylic acids. Monovalent and multivalent alcohols are used as the monomers which form esters. The flame retardant has a mean molecular weight of greater than 20,000 at a mean degree of polymerization Pn of at least 55 and is preferably used to produce polyamide fibers and polyester fibers in the melt spinning method.

L'invention concerne un retardateur de flamme non halogéné, qui peut être obtenu par polycondensation de monomères phosphorés avec des monomères estérifiables. Le monomère phosphoré est un adduit d'oxyde de 9,10~dihydro-9-oxa-10-phospha-phénanthrène-10 (DOPO) et de dérivés de DOPO substitués sur le noyau, à des acides carboxyliques insaturés. En tant que monomères estérifiables, on utilise des mono- et des polyalcools. Le retardateur de flamme a une masse moléculaire moyenne supérieure à 20 000 pour un degré moyen de polymérisation Pn d'au moins 55 et est utilisé, de préférence, pour la fabrication de fibres de polyamide et de fibres de polyester par le procédé de filage par fusion.
