Abstract of Specification The present invention relates to novel halogenated 4-trifluoro- methyl-4'-cyanodiphenyl-ethers of the general formula Image wherein R represents hydrogen, C1-4 alkyl, C1-4 alkoxy or C1-4 alkylthio, to a process for their manufacture and to their use as herbicides. The active compounds according to the invention can be used as selective herbicides, with particular advantage in crops of cotton, rice, carrots and cereals (including maize). When used in higher amounts (approx. 10 to 20 kg/ha) they are also suitable as total weedkillers.
