ICI PP 34091 ABSTRACT HALOGENATED ESTERS The invention provides compounds of formula (I), useful as insecticides and knockdown agents: Image (I) wherein Y represents alkoxy of up to six carbon atoms; Z represents halo or alkoxy of up to six carbon atoms; R represents a group of formula: -(CH2)p-(O)m-R3 wherein each of m and p may have a value selected from zero and one, R3 represents alkyl contining up to six carbon atoms, phenyl or benzyl, and additionally R3 may represent hydrogen when both m and p have the value zero, or R3 may represent alkenyl containing up to six carbon atoms, haloalkenyl containing up to six carbon atoms, alkynyl continaing up to six carbon atoms or haloalkynyl containing up to six carbon atoms when m has the value zero; and either (a) A and B are both selected from alkyl containing up to four carbon atoms or (b) A represents hydrogen and B represents a group of formula: Image wherein R1 and R2 are each selected from methyl, fluoro, chloro, bromo and trifluoromethyl. The invention also provides processes and intermediates for the preparation of the compounds of formula (I), insecticidal compositions comprising them and methods for their use in combating insect pest species.
