ABSTRACT A novel compound of the formula: Image wherein R2 is halogen or trifluoromethyl; wherein R3 is -COR4, -CHOHR4, -C(CH3)OHR4, -CH2R4 or -CH=CHR4; wherein R4 is alkyl of 13 to 25 carbon atoms, inclusive; or a pharmacologically acceptable salt thereof. The compounds are useful as intermediates in the prepara- tion of the corresponding compounds of the formula: Image which are themselves useful for preventing or retarding the degradation of elastin or other proteins and therefore dis- ease states relating thereto.
