ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A recoil operated hand gun is provided herein which has a main frame constructed from a plurality of preferably releasably interconnected fabricated plates including left and right-hand side plates and a bottom plate defining a longitudinal recess. A barrel assembly is supported on the main frame, the barrel assembly being received in the recess. A slide is movable relative to the main frame, the slide co-operating with the left and right-hand side plates to enclose the barrel assembly within said longitudinal recess. Co-operating cam means are provided on the barrel assembly and on the main frame, the barrel assembly and the slide being locked together by the co-operating cam means which force the barrel assembly into engagement with the slide on return to its position of rest. The cam means on the main frame comprise a fabricated cam plate received between the left-hand side plate and the right-hand side plate. The whole pistol is preferably constructed on a replaceable unit system preferably of pressed metal parts which require neither forging nor machining and which are welded together. The design features, while facilitating a high quality in the finished gun, also ensure that tolerances are maintained and replaceable parts available on an interchangeable basis.
