The invention concerns a hand-held apparatus (1) for cutting transversely a pipe (2) using a slitter (7) co-operating with rollers (11, 12) to produce a deepening cut, characterised in that it is formed of two half-shells (3, 4) mounted opposite round the pipe (2) with adjustable clamping means one at least (4) supporting a slitter (7) or radially mobile, in the cutting plane (P), and the other (3), at least two rollers (11, 12) rotating in the cutting plane (P) and arranged in pair facing each slitter (7) on the other half-shell (4) to compensate the cutting force in the assembly rotation about the pipe (2) resulting from the co-operation between a tangential driving tool (15) and catching means (16) distributed over the outer surface or on the periphery of each half-shell (3, 4).
