A hand-held blade sharpening device is disclosed that includes an elongated sharpening polygon having an end and a plurality of elongated, substantially planar sharpening surfaces for receiving the edge of a blade. A blade-angle setting member is positioned proximate the end of the sharpening polygon. The blade-angle setting member has a blade-angle setting contact area corresponding to each of the sharpening surfaces for receiving a side of the blade and supporting it at a preferred blade sharpening angle relative to the corresponding sharpening surface.
