A hand held motor operated appliance for foaming milk in a serving container is described and employs an aerator characterized by a flat faced spinning disc held close to a fixed cylindrical shroud thus forming a thin annular air nozzle which is immersed in the milk. A detachable air pipe is adapted to continuously supply air to the submerged air nozzle during foaming of the milk. Combination anti-swirl vanes and standoffs are provided to prevent the formation of a vortex and to enable an operator to rest the appliance on the bottom of the container thus to maintain the spinning disc an optimal distance from the container bottom. The anti-swirl vanes by preventing the formation of vertical mixing currents thereby prevent over foaming of the milk. The standoffs, by holding the improved aerator near the bottom of the container in the unfoamed portion of the milk ensures all the milk in the container will be completely foamed with uniformly fine bubbles of air thus to greatly enhance the taste. Further, the disc, shroud and air pipe are readily detachable for thorough cleaning.
