An optical scanner includes a hand-holdable housing having a scanner head for scanning a record medium (RM), a roller (15) engageable with and rotatable by the record medium when scanned by the scanner head, the roller including an optically-sensible marking for use in measuring rotary movement of the roller, a light source illuminating the roller and its marking, an optical sensor (4) for sensing information on the record medium and the marking of the roller, and a control system for periodically energizing the light source during predetermined time periods enabling the optical sensor to sense the marking of the roller during the predetermined time periods, and the information on the record medium during other time periods.

Lecteur optique comprenant un boîtier portatif équipé d'une tête de balayage pour le balayage d'un support d'enregistrement (RM), un rouleau (15) apte à coopérer avec le support d'enregistrement et à être entraîné en rotation par celui-ci lors de son balayage par la tête de balayage, ledit rouleau comprenant un marquage à sensibilité optique permettant la mesure de la rotation du rouleau, une source lumineuse éclairant le rouleau et son marquage, un capteur optique (4) destiné à détecter les informations présentes sur le support d'enregistrement, et un système de commande destiné à actionner périodiquement la source lumineuse pendant des intervalles de temps déterminés afin de permettre au capteur optique de détecter le marquage du rouleau pendant lesdits intervalles de temps déterminés, et de détecter, pendant d'autres intervalles de temps, les informations présentes sur le support d'enregistrement.
