A hand-held and self-contained electronic printing apparatus (10) for printing indicia on a medium (M) which includes a housing (12) that can be manually positioned adjacent a surface of the medium (M) and manually swept across a printing area on the medium (M) during a printing sequence. A print head is disposed in the housing (12) which contains a plurality of print elements such as ink jet nozzles for printing indicia in a selectable pattern of dots on the medium (M) within the printing area. The printing apparatus (10) also contains an electronic control circuit disposed in the housing (12) for controlling the print head to print indicia on the medium (M) during a printing sequence wherein the control circuit comprises compensation means for reducing image distortion based on detecting the position of the nozzles during the printing sequence. In one embodiment, the control circuit compensates for image distortion that is the result of sweeping the housing (12) across a non-linear path.
L'invention porte sur un dispositif électronique d'impression à main et autonome (10) servant à l'impression d'inscriptions sur un support (M), comprenant un boîtier (12) et qu'on déplace à la main le long de la surface du support (M) pendant l'impression. Le boîtier (12) présente une tête d'impression munie d'une série d'éléments d'impression tels que des buses à jet d'encre permettant d'imprimer sur le support (M) et à l'intérieur de la surface d'impression des inscriptions correspondant à des motifs de points choisis. L'appareil (10) contient également un circuit électronique de commande placé dans le boîtier (12) et commandant la tête d'impression pour qu'elle imprime des inscriptions sur le support (M) pendant une séquence d'impression, ledit circuit comportant des moyens de compensation réduisant les distorsions d'image en suivant la position des buses pendant l'impression. Dans une variante, le circuit de commande compense les distorsions d'image résultant d'un balayage non linéaire du boîtier (12).
