ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An element for a handrail assembly is disclosed. Each element consists of a length of bendable soft metal rod or pipe having a soft covering which may have a grained leather-like surface. Each end of the element is provided with means enabling like elements to be joined in endwise relationship permitting a handrail assembly of any desired length to be assembled. The soft metal used in the handrail elements enable the handrail to be bent by hand at the site of installation to any desired con- figuration. Mounting means for a handrail are also disclosed along with a method for assembling, shaping and mounting a handrail.
