A hand tool for aerating turf has a pole with a grip at one end for holding firmly in one hand and an implement at the other end for penetration of the turf and removal of cores of earth and grass from the turf. The implement has a unitary yoke with preferably two tines that are hollow and parallel to each other. The tines are fixed to the yoke so as to provide a continuously smooth interior surface or channel which is free from any obstructions that could impede the movement of cores through the tines. In use, the tool may be moved progressively in an up and down motion as the user steps around the surface of the lawn being treated.
