A handle assembly for a hand tool is provided so that the handle can be used with different tool pieces. The handle is provided with an insert having a keeper element upon which the tool or blade is mounted and a collar which surrounds the keeper element. The insert is then inserted into a recess of the handle so that it is securely held in place. In another embodiment, the handle is provided with a mounting member upon which the blade or tool is mounted and can be removed and replaced.
