The invention relates to a handover method in a mobile communication system in which error correction of a radio signal can be arranged with different protection levels. The method comprises measuring the signal level and/or quality of base stations (BTS) in a mobile station (MS), the signal quality and level of the mobile station (MS) at the base station (BTS) is measured, comparing measurements results thus obtained and other variables of the connection with handover criteria, and handover is performed from the source cell to the target cell, when the handover criteria are met. The invention is characterized by determining at least one handover criterion depending on error correction of the radio connection. The invention further relates to a mobile communication system for performing handover.

Cette invention a trait à un procédé de transfert entre cellules dans un système de communication mobile dans lequel la correction d'erreur d'un signal radio peut être effectuée avec différents niveaux de protection. On mesure, au titre de ce procédé, le niveau de signal et/ou l'on évalue la qualité de stations de base (BTS) dans une station mobile (MS). On évalue également la qualité du signal et le niveau de la station mobile (MS) à la station de base (BTS), on compare les résultats des mesures ainsi obtenues ainsi que d'autres variables de la connexion à des critères de transfert entre cellules et on procède au transfert, de la cellule source vers la cellule cible, lorsqu'il a été satisfait aux critères de transfert. L'invention, qui se caractérise par la détermination d'au moins un critère de transfert en fonction d'une correction d'erreur de la connexion radio, porte, de surcroît, sur un système de communication mobile permettant d'effectuer un transfert entre cellules.
