A method and system for controlling the quality of handovers are disclosed in which a poor radio environment in a target cell is revealed prior to completion of the handover procedure. During the handover signalling phase, the output power of the mobile station (16) of interest and the target cell's base transceiver station (14) are reduced. Consequently, prior to completion of the handover, if the target cell has a poor radio environment (below a predetermined C/I or C/N), the handover attempt will fail, and the mobile sation (16) will revert and remain connected to the original cell.

L'invention concerne un procédé et un système de gestion de qualité de transferts, un mauvais environnement radio dans une cellule étant décelée avant exécution de la procédure de transfert. Pendant la phase de signalisation de transfert, on réduit la puissance de sortie de la station mobile (16) concernée et celle de la station d'émetteur-récepteur de base (14) de la cellule cible. Par conséquent, avant exécution du transfert, si la cellule cible possède un mauvais environnement radio (au-dessous d'un C/I ou d'un C/N prédéterminé), l'essai de transfert échoue et la station mobile (16) retourne à la cellule d'origine à laquelle elle reste connectée.
