ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A system for identifying handwritten characters is provided wherein a pen and associated circuitry generate a sequence of signals representing a sequence of direction which is taken to write each character. The sequence of signals is applied to a logic circuit arrangement which, in response to the signal sequence generated in writing a character, produces a set of digital signals uniquely representative of said character.
