A hard-faced ceramic fiber module is formed by providing a ceramic fiber sheet that is folded upon itself to form a first surface having adjacent folds and intermediate valleys by impregnating the first surface with an aqueous colloidal silica suspension, covering said impregnated first surface with a layer of a mixture of ceramic fibers in an aqueous colloidal suspension, compressing said layer, freezing said module and then heating the same to remove substantially all of the water.

Module de fibre de céramique durci superficiellement formé en utilisant une feuille de fibre de céramique pliée sur elle-même pour constituer une première surface possédant des plis adjacents et des creux intermédiaires en imprégnant la première surface d'une suspension aqueuse de silice colloïdale, en couvrant la première surface imprégnée d'une couche d'un mélange de fibres de céramique dans une suspension colloïdale aqueuse, en comprimant cette couche, en congelant le module et en le chauffant pour éliminer dans une large mesure l'eau.
