ABSTRACT Disclosed is a fixed hard disc drive which is physically compatible with conventional floppy disc drives of the type used m microcomputers and other data handling equipment. A plurality of hard discs are mounted on a rotat- able spindle in fixed relationship. A plurality of transducers are mounted in spaced relationship for reading and writing information on the disc surfaces and are moved radially in and out along the disc surfaces by a carriage. Bear- ings on the carriage are received by spaced guide tracks, one of which is fixed and one of which is spring-loaded to preload the bearings against the fixed track and assure accurate tracking of the heads.
