ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A device for continuously monitoring the firmness of potatoes in a casserole submitted to a heating element, comprising: a probe designed to at least partially engage into the potatoes and including at its top end thereof a weight, and engaging at its upper end a bore made in the cover of the casserole so as to maintain the probe in vertical position. The probe accordingly progressively sinks into the potato during cooking thereof, whereby the vertical displacement thereof constitutes a continuous visual clue as to the level of cooking the potatoes have reached.
