Hardware-enforced zoning is provided in Fibre Channel switches to protect against breaching of assigned zones in a switch network which can occur with software-based zoning techniques. The invention provides logic for performing a hardware-based validation of the Source ID S_ID of frames both at the point where the frame enters the Fibre Channel fabric, and at the point where the frame leaves the fabric. The S_ID is verified against an inclusion list or table of allowable S_IDs, which can be unique for each fabric port. The invention provides a way to increase the range of sources an inclusion table can express, by implementing wild cards, on an entry-by entry basis. If the S_ID is valid, it will enter the fabric and route normally. If invalid, the frame will not be routed but will be disposed of by the fabric according the FC rules. This prevents incorrect S_IDs from breaching the table-driven zoning at the point where frames exit the fabric, to prevent unauthorized access to devices connected to the switch network.
Un zonage renforcé par du matériel est réalisé dans les commutateurs de canaux de fibres optiques, de manière que la violation de certaines zones attribuées dans un réseau de commutateurs soit empêchée, violation pouvant survenir avec les techniques de zonage à base logicielle. L'invention porte sur un circuit logique conçu pour assurer la validation à base matérielle des ID S_ID Sources des trames, à la fois au niveau du point où la trame pénètre dans la matrice de commutation des canaux à fibres, et au niveau du point où la trame quitte la matrice. Le S_ID est vérifié par rapport à une liste ou à un tableau d'inclusion de S_ID autorisés, pouvant être propre à chaque port de matrice. L'invention se rapporte également à un moyen d'augmenter la plage des sources qu'une table d'inclusion peut exprimer, par l'implémentation de cartes jokers, entrée par entrée. Si le S_ID est valable, il entrera dans la matrice et sera acheminé normalement. S'il n'est pas valable, la trame ne sera pas acheminée mais sera éliminée par la matrice en fonction de règles FC. Ainsi on empêche les S_ID incorrects de violer le zonage commandé par la table, au niveau du point où les trames sortent de la matrice, de sorte que l'accès non autorisé aux dispositifs connectés au commutateur soit empêché.
