ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A projection for a hay bale plunger of specific dimensions was determined to be superior for baling hay, fodder and the like. A projection with a length of about 9.25 inches (23 cm) a diameter of about 1.375 inches (3.5 cm) and a conical taper of about 2.5 inches (6 cm) was found to function best. This left a clear hole through bales from end to end. This hole allowed baling of wetter material, to from heavier, moister and more compact bales of superior quality. The bales, despite their moisture content, neither heated nor grew mould.
