2119461 9305641 PCTABS00021 A forage crop harvester (11) provided with a rotary crop pick-up (30) which deposits crop deposited in an elongated swath and deposits it on a transversely extended, moveable conveyor (36) which consolidates the crop material and deposits it in a windrow at one side of the harvester (11). According to the disclosure, the pick-up (30) is deposed on the harvester in a position in advance of the harvester wheels (21), thereby eliminating damage to the crop caused by crushing of the material in the swath by the wheels (21). The harvester (11) includes mechanism (17, 23, 24) providing for maintaining it in an offset relationship with respect to the tractor (10) during operation. The rake (30) and conveyor (36) are supported through a counterbalancing mechanism (46) which maintains it in a floating relationship in a crop pick-up position and has ground engaging skids (52) which limit contact of the rake teeth (31) with the ground surface.
