A method and an apparatus for compressing hay such that the hay is suitable for long distance shipping. The hay is texturized by passing the hay through a shredder (32) with an added fog or mist of water (302). The shredder (32) separates, cuts and bends hay fibers rather than shattering the fibers. Compression of the hay is achieved by feeding the hay through an open ended compression conduit (63) in a peristaltic manner through the use of a hydraulically actuated ram (81). Increased compression of the hay is achieved by applying transverse pressure to the hay as the hay travels longitudinally through the compression conduit (63).
L'invention concerne un procédé et un appareil destinés à comprimer le foin de manière à pouvoir le transporter à grande distance. On texture le foin en le faisant passer par un broyeur (32) et en y ajoutant un brouillard ou une brume d'eau (302). Plutôt que de secouer les fibres du foin, le broyeur (32) les sépare, les coupe et les plie. On comprime le foin en l'alimentant à travers une conduite de compression (63) à extrémité ouverte qui fonctionne de manière péristaltique grâce à un piston (81) à commande hydraulique. On comprime mieux le foin en y appliquant une pression transversale à mesure qu'il se déplace le long de la conduite de compression (63).
