A gene encoding RNA polymerase playing an important role in the proliferation of hepatitis C virus; and a screening method with the use of the above gene or the above RNA polymerase protein. Use of this method makes it possible to easily detect an inhibitor against RNA polymerase playing an important role in the proliferation of HCV.
