This invention can be best summarized as a two piece, synthetic sledgehammer handle that incorporates two independent, mechanical locking mechanisms that affix the head to the handle. A moulded Guard is positioned near the butt of the handle. The Primary Locking Tabs are a moulded part of the handle itself and can be referred to as external. There are two separate tabs and they are located across from one another along the outer edges of the Mounting Core (the portion that is inserted into the hole in the center of the head). They are manually pinched together to facilitate the insertion of the Mounting Core. Once the head has been tapped on all the way, the tabs spring outward, thus locking the head down. The Main Lock is the second piece in the design and like a traditional wedge, it is driven down into the top of the Mounting Core. However, unlike a wedge, it is shaped tocorrespond with an internal Locking Bay that "captures" the lock and prevents it from ever working its way back out. In addition to being permanently locked in place, the head of the Main Lock has a circumference larger than that of the hole in the head, thereby forming a Cap. The Guard is a moulded, quarter-circular shaped extrusion near the butt of the handle that has a three-fold function. First, it prevents the hand from slipping off when swinging the hammer. Second, it can be hooked into a belt for transportation (applicable on the short-handled versions). And finally, it can be conveniently hung up when not in use.
