A head mounted projector system with extremely high resolution. The system includes a retro-reflecting gain screen (50). The on-helmet apparatus (40) of the system includes a truncated spherical mirror (42), a re-directing multi-faceted mirror (44) and a small rotating polygon scanner (46). The system includes off-helmet apparatus including a background image source and an area-of-interest (AOI) image source. The background and AOI images are scanned into a linear ribbon array of fibers (32A and 32B). To provide 20/20 visual acuity, one fiber per each 0.7 arc-minute field-of-view is used.

L'invention porte sur un ensemble projecteur à résolution très élevée, monté sur la tête et comportant un écran rétroréfléchissant à gain (50). L'appareil monté sur le casque (40) comprend un miroir sphérique tronqué (42), un miroir à facettes multiples de réorientation (44) et un petit scanner polygone rotatif (46). L'ensemble comporte également un appareil extérieur au casque incluant une source d'image de fond et une source d'image de section d'intérêt. L'image de fond et l'image de section d'intérêt sont balayées dans un réseau de fibres en forme de ruban linéaire (32A et 32B). Afin d'obtenir une acuité visuelle 20/20, il faut utiliser une fibre pour chaque 0,7 minute d'arc du champ de vision.
