ABSTRACT The present invention relates to a head rest support suitable for attachment to a wheelchair having a backrest and a head support. The support comprises an upper support rod of polygonal (preferably rectangular) cross-section orientated substantially horizontally and having a ball joint at one end suitable for attachment to the head rest, a lower support rod orientated substantially vertically having a ball positioned at an upper end thereof, a first clamp comprising two clamp halves capable of being tightened together defining a first recess shaped to correspond to the polygonal upper support rod and a second recess shaped to correspond to the ball so that the first clamp can be supported at the upper end of the lower support rod while clamping the upper support rod, and a second clamp capable of being attached to the back rest for slidably receiving and clamping the lower support rod. In this way, the head rest can be adjusted in a simple manner without the head rest becoming twisted or misaligned around the longitudinal axis of the upper support rod.
