A process (10) for the heap leaching of sulphide ores, the process (10) characterised by the process steps of: (i) The agglomeration or wetting (16) of an ore feed; (ii) Exposing the agglomerated or wetted ore to an inoculum (18) containing one or more bacterial species capable of biooxidising sulphide minerals in that ore; (iii) Forming one or more heaps (20) from the ore of step (ii); (iv) Dispersing further bacterial inoculum (24, 26) over at least a portion of the or each heap (20); and (v) Recovering leach solution draining from the heap and passing a portion thereof to a means for metal recovery (30).

L'invention concerne un procédé (10) de lixiviation en tas de minerais de sulfure caractérisé en ce qu'il comprend les étapes consistant: (i) à agglomérer ou mouiller (16) un flux de minerai; (ii) à exposer le minerai aggloméré ou mouillé à un inoculum (18) renfermant une ou plusieurs espèces bactériennes capables de bio-oxyder des minéraux de sulfure dans ce minerai; (iii) à former un ou plusieurs tas (20) à partir du minerai de l'étape (ii); (iv) à disperser l'inoculum bactérien (24, 26) sur au moins une partie de chaque tas (20); et (v) à récupérer la solution de lixiviat issue du tas et à passer une partie de celle-ci dans des moyens destinés à la récupération de métal (30).
