A heat convection device (10) for installation in a suspended ceiling (11) is described. The device (10) consists essentially of a housing (12) having centrally mounted therein a fan assembly (21) which is spaced from a rear wall (15) of the housing. The fan assembly (21) consists of at least one fan (28) having a hub drive (29) which is secured concentrically in an annular shroud (27). The shroud (27) is supported adjacent a grill (20) which is comprised of a plurality of spaced apart flat ribs (36) disposed in transverse parallel relationship and oriented with their flat plane disposed in the direction of air flow. The fan assembly (21) draws air from the periphery of the grill and blows it out in a downward column (35) towards a floor area below the ceiling.
