HEAT EXCHANGER AND HEAT PIPE FABRICATING PROCESS ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An energy saving liquid to liquid heat exchanger and process for a dishwasher or like device discharging hot waste water comprising a hot water tank for holding the waste water from the dishwasher and having inlet and outlet pipes, a cold water tank for holding the fresh water going to a waterheater and having inlet and outlet pipes, the cold water tank disposed on top of the hot water tank, a bundle of heat pipes containing low boiling refrigerant disposed inside of the two tanks so as to extract heat from the hot water tank and give it up to the cold water tank, whereby the temperature of the fresh water leaving the heat exchanger is higher than its entering temperature. The process for fabricating a heat pipe used in the heat exchanger includes the steps of positioning the open end of a heat pipe within the chamber of a housing adjacent a spin closing mandrel, evacuating the chamber, connecting the open end of the pipe to a liquid source of low boiling point refrigerant, and rotating the mandrel force fully over and spin closing the tube open end, sealing the refrigerant therein.
