ABSTRACT A heat exchanger having a reduced tendency of formation of air pockets. The heat exchanger includes a tube system immersed in a body of water such as the sea, from which heat is transferred to a heat exchanging medium circulating through the tube system. The tube system includes a heat exchanging medium distributor and heat exchanging medium collector as well as heat exchanging tubes which interconnect the distributor and collector. These tubes extend below the distributor and collector such that the heat exchanging medium is directed downwardly from the distributor and then up- wardly to the collector. Any air bubbles in the tubes are forced upwardly to the collector or distributor where they can be bled off.
