An improved process and apparatus for exchanging heat between a first fluid and a gaseous second fluid in a shell and tube heat exchanger comprising feeding the first fluid through the tubes of the heat exchanger, feeding the gaseous second fluid to a cylindrical vestibule within the shell for passage through the shell space surrounding the tubes, the improvement comprising feeding the gaseous second fluid to the vestibule in substantially non-radial chordal flow. Preferably, the gaseous fluid enters the vestibule at an angle selected from 5 - 25° from normal to the longitudinal, preferably, vertical axis of the vestibule. The process and apparatus for providing non-chordal input gas flow results in a most beneficial reduction in noise level.
La présente invention a pour objet un appareil et un procédé améliorés pour l'échange de la chaleur entre un premier fluide et un deuxième fluide en phase gazeuse dans un échangeur thermique à calandre : après admission du premier fluide à l'intérieur des tuyaux de la calandre le deuxième fluide gazeux est introduit dans un vestibule cylindrique situé à l'intérieur de l'enveloppe aux fins de circulation dans l'espace entourant la calandre; l'amélioration consiste à introduire le deuxième fluide gazeux à l'intérieur du vestibule sous forme d'écoulement chordal non radial. De préférence, le fluide gazeux pénètre le vestibule selon un angle prédéterminé de l'ordre de 5 à 25 degrés de la normale longitudinale, de préférence dans l'axe vertical du vestibule. Le procédé et l'appareil en question assurant un écoulement chordal permettent une importante réduction du niveau de bruit.
