ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A heat exchanger is disclosed for dissipating sensible heat of a hot gas on a number of surfaces. A duct section branches into two parallel branch ducts leading into a common mixing chamber. The heat exchanger surface in the duct section is an evaporator heating surface. Another heat exchange surface transferring heat to the medium flowing in the evaporator heating surface is disposed in one of the branch ducts. The other branch duct contains heat exchanger surface for heating a medium. At least one of the branch ducts has an adjustable throttle. All of the heat exchange means are disposed within a single cylindric vessel. The system is capable of use with very hot process gases. It enables selective variation of the proportional heat transfer.
