ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A heat reclamation system particularly adapted to recover otherwise rejected heat from the refrigerant gas flowing through air-conditioning and refrigerating systems. The appara- tus includes a counter-flow heat exchanger for transferring heat to a medium such as water, the heat exchanger being installed in the tubing between the compressor and the conventional con- denser. A pump circulates water through one side of the heat exchanger. Hot refrigerant gas from the compressor is circulated through the other side of the heat exchanger. The various para- meters of the heat exchanger are chosen so as to remove the superheat of the refrigerant and also to partially condense the refrigerant to a degree such that the refrigerant, upon its emer- gence from the above-mentioned heat exchanger will be partially sub-cooled, but generally not to a level where the quality of the refrigerant will go below about 0.25. The apparatus of this invention is readily adaptable for use as part of a new air-conditioning and refrigerating system or as an addition to an old system, of varying capacities, without adversely affecting their performance and reliability in other respects. Moreover, it not only will permit efficient use of excess heat reclaimed from the refrigerant gas, but also will cause the air-conditioning and refrigerating system itself to operate more efficiently.
