The roll comprises a deformable layer on a base member and the deformable layer is produced by coating the base member with a silicone rubber material curing the silicone rubber material and treating the roll by irradiating its surface with a predetermined level of ultra violet radiation for a predeter- mined time to produce an improved silicone rubber deformable layer.
