ABSTRACT Heat-hardenable aqueous coating agents having improved corrosion resistance are based on a mixture of bonding agents, and optionally organic solvents, pigments, fillers and other auxiliary substances. The bonding agents are (A) from 60 to 95% by weight of a water-soluble or water-dispersible addi- tion compound, at least partly neutralized with basic compounds and esterified, consisting of from 10 to 35% by weight of one or more .alpha.,.beta.-unsaturated dicar- boxylic acids and from 65 to 90% by weight of a butadiene polymer which is fluid at 20°C, contains at least 50 mole percent of butadiene units, and has a molecular weight of between 400 and 6000; and (B) from 5 to 40% by weight of awater-soluble or -dispersible cross-linking resin containing on average at least two reactive groups per mole, the addition-compound (A) being esterified to from 10 to 70 equivalent percent, based on the acid-number, with one or more alcohols of the general formula (I): Image (I) and at least one of the reactive groups of cross-linking resin .beta. corresponding to the general formula (II): Image (II) wherein R1, R2 and R3 are the same or different and each signifies hydrogen or a methyl group, R4 signifies hydrogen or an alkyl group 1 to 5 C-atoms, and n stands for 0 or 1.
