RAYCHEM LIMITED RK123 A B S T R A C T PRODUCING HEAT RECOVERABLE ARTICLES A process for the production of a hollow heat-recoverable article provided with a functional insert which comprises (a) deforming at least part of a body of fusion bondable polymeric material at a temperature below the softening point of the material to render it heat-recoverable, b) disposing the functional insert in contact with an expanded portion of the body, (c) bonding one or more parts of the body to a substrate of fusion bondable polymeric material to produce the configuration of at least one hollow heat recoverable article with the functional insert located therein, and (d) cross-linking the bond forming parts of the deformed body and the substrate to each other. This provides a highly efficient way of installing the inserts in the recoverable articles.
