A heat exchanger for use with the exhaust and cooling systems of an internal combustion engine comprises a main body having a substantially hollow interior. An exhaust inlet is in fluid communication with the substantially hollow interior of the main body. An exhaust outlet is in fluid communication with the substantially hollow interior of the main body. A heat exchange coil has a main coil portion, a coolant inlet portion and a coolant outlet portion. The main coil portion is disposed within the substantially hollow interior of the main body. The coolant inlet portion and the coolant outlet portion of the heat exchange coil extend outwardly from the main body. Hot exhaust gases from a vehicle's exhaust system pass through the exhaust inlet and enter the substantially hollow interior of the main body of the heat exchanger, whereat the hot exhaust gases contact the heat exchange coil, to thereby heat the coolant within the heat exchange coil.
