Abstract of the Disclosure A heat resistant gas transfer line comprising a metal outer shell; an inner liner formed of a plurality of refractory rings having male and female shiplap flanges on their opposite ends, said flanges being joined together so that an expansion gap exists in the joints; and an intermediate liner comprising alumina concrete. A method for forming such a transfer line involving the use of combustible rings which allow the expansion gaps to be formed when line is put into service. Also an apparatus for use in an ammonia plant comprising such a transfer line connecting primary and secondary reformers.
