-13- ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Apparatus for joining members through the application of heat comprising, in combination, heat transfer structure for applying heat to a workpiece through contact with the workpiece, and support structure spaced from and opposed to the heat transfer structure for supporting the workpiece against the heat transfer structure during the application of heat thereto. The heat transfer structure includes a body having a lower surface facing the support structure and oppositely facing exposed, side surfaces, heat generating elements supported within the body. The body has a center line and the heat generating elements are positioned within the body nearer the side surfaces than to the center line.
