Abstract A solid fuel burning stove having a baffle positioned between its primary combustion region and its flue outlet and defining a space separated from the primary combustion region upstream of the flue and adjacent the baffle. In this invention, the baffle is made of material having thermal conductivity lower than remaining portions of the firebox of the stove and is a panel, preferably of ceramic material, supported by at least part of its periphery adjacent opposite side portions of the firebox. This reduces or avoids problems of the baffle or its supporting structure acting as a heat sink and of leakage past the baffle.
