ABSTRACT A HEATING APPARATUS A steam heated beater shaft is disclosed which simultaneously agitates or stirs material being heated and comprises a steam chamber with groups of annular hollow rings spaced along the chamber, each group comprising radially spaced concentric rings. Ducting is provided for conveying steam from the steam chamber to the rings and also for conveying condensate from the rings back to and out of the steam chamber under the action of centrifugal force. The duct is arranged to convey condensate from the inner rings to the outer rings and thence to the steam chamber. The ducting is also arranged to convey condensate out of the shaft from the inner face of the outer wall of the steam chamber.
