ABSTRACT A heating apparatus for heating sheet material before the hot formation thereof comprises two members for contact- ing the two surfaces of the sheet material for heat transfer, and one of these members has a layer of elastic material at the side thereof facing the sheet material. In order to com- pensate for tolerances in thickness of the sheet material, in particular with hard sheet material, the member comprising the layer is designed as a heating plate and the layer has a relief-type surface.
